All About Platings
Platings are a thin layer of metal deposited over a conductive surface to decorate or improve the wearability of an item.
Pen components come in a variety of platings, such as chrome, gun metal, rose or bronze, antique finishes, and even precious metal platings like rhodium, silver or gold. Black Titanium and Titanium Gold are newer platings that deliver darker tones to traditional metals and promise to be even more enduring for daily use.
No matter your preference of color, any these platings have proven durable enough for everyday use for a pen.
There are several plating methods, including solid surface plating that is heat and pressure treated to fuse materials together, electroplating, vapor deposition and vacuum plating. Some plating processes often involve dipping components in liquids to achieve a consistent and durable finish.
